WILDLIFE experts are backing plans to save Bolton's gardens by offering free CDs in support of a new gardening manifesto.
The UK's wildlife and horticultural organisations, and Natural England, signed the "Let Our Gardens Live" manifesto with the support of The Lancashire Wildlife Trust and the Bolton Wildlife Project.
"Let Our Gardens Live" is calling for the public to play their part in maintaining their gardens to benefit their health and arrest the decline in wildlife.
To show their support, the Bolton Wildlife Project has ordered 2,000 free wildlife gardening CDs from Natural England, the government body bringing together people, places and nature.
Sandra Spencer, administrations officer for the Bolton Wildlife Project, said: "We've ordered copies of the "Gardening With Wildlife in Mind" CD to encourage the community to have a look at the garden and acknowledge what they can do within it. It contains everything you need to know in terms of gardening and how to encourage wildlife."
The manifesto launch comes after a survey found that 54 per cent of North-west residents feel that they do not have time to attract wildlife to their gardens. A further 25 per cent do not feel they are well informed about wildlife gardening.
Mrs Spencer said: "The escalatiing of planning and development is making space for nature and wildlife to survive very limited."
For your copy of the "Gardening With Wildlife in Mind" visit the Lancashire Wildlife Trust offices in Bury Road, Bolton. Or, alternatively call 01204 663754 for more information. CDs are available from August 1.
