The Australian bar chain Walkabout is more famous for its late night Aussie party atmosphere than its suitability for a meal, but our visit was a pleasant surprise.

As one of the resort's top town centre bars, located on Queen Street, Walkabout may not be ideal for an evening meal, but for a quiet lunch it offers excellent surroundings and value.

The menu encompasses a wide selection of meals, including some Australian specialties, such as kangaroo fillet and burgers, as well as the usual English pub classics, like steaks, burgers and hot sandwiches.

For my meal I decided to go Australian, selecting the Kangaroo fillet, which comes complete with chips or potatoes, and a side salad.

The meat was deliciously tender and succulent, although it only came with three medium sized pieces, perhaps due to the cost to buy in and prepare.

My dining partner opted for the Sidneyside burger, a large beef burger topped with sweet pepperdew peppers, hot jalapeno peppers, a tomato, crisp lettuce and sour cream.

While both meals were tasty, the only complaint could be that the chips were slightly undercooked.

The main meals on the menu are mainly meat based, but there is also a decent selection of vegetarian meals, particularly starters and lunchtime snacks.

The afternoon we went in for lunch, the pub was very quite, and the service was professional and friendly.

Walkabout offer a fairly good range of drinks, including some rarely found in the UK Australian drinks, and a good wine list.

The prices are slightly more expensive than high street competitors, such as Yates's, but the food is of a good standard for a pub food, and our bill came to around £20 for two main meals, and two drinks.
