TV fans still mourning The Sopranos are in for a treat with the latest US-imported drama, Nurse Jackie.
In fact, even if you didn’t watch The Sopranos I’d recommend it because, quite frankly, it’s the best thing on TV at the moment.
Starring Edie Falco, aka Carmela Soprano, the series follows Jackie, a nurse who struggles to find a balance between the demands of her busy job at the New York City hospital and a complicated home life.
But it’s not your average hospital drama.
To put it mildly, Holby City it ain’t.
Jackie isn’t your average nurse, you see. Saddled with an addiction to painkillers, not averse to stealing from the pockets of her nastier patients and an adulterer, she’s a modern-day flawed saint.
And that’s what makes the show so superb.
Nurse Jackie is a real find. It’s packed with subtlety and exquisite nuances that get your attention and keep you gripped. It’ll have you begging the clock to slow down as the half hour long episode reaches the end.
Nurse Jackie has been described, by someone far cleverer than myself, as ER on amphetamines, or Scrubs with The Wire injected into its veins. And it’s true. But don’t believe me, watch it for yourself, you’ll be glad you did.
