THERE’S a lot of TV at the moment that's supposed to be funny – Alan Carr’s Chatty Man, and That Mitchell and Webb Look, to name just two.

And although I sort of like both shows, I’ve got to admit I can sit through both without raising much more than a smile. They're both fairly amusing, but I’m never on the floor in hysterics.

The only thing that’s got me tuning in without fail at the moment is Michael McIntyre's wonderful Comedy Roadshow.

McIntyre seems to have sprung up from nowhere. One minute his name means nothing, the next he's springing up on panel shows all over the place, and before long he's got his own TV show and is everybody's favourite comedian. He's like a southern Peter Kay. He talks about things we all think but never admit.

This week’s Comedy Roadshow was a favourite of mine, as it was set in my native Wales.

McIntyre sculpted his act to his audience, taking a humorous swipe at the Welsh language. He observed that as “dd” in Welsh is pronounced "th-th-th-th" Welsh women must go into bra shops and as for a “32 th-th-th-th-th”.

His guests are always consistently good too. This week's stars were Alun Cochrane and Sean Lock.

But it was local comic Steve Williams who made me laugh most with his line that you know if you're working class when you have a plasma screen TV too big for your living room.
