Blackpool Council is to unveil a brand new disabled changing and toilet facility at its award winning Solaris centre.

The facility will enable the most severely disabled visitors to the centre to have access to toilet and changing equipment including a bed and hoist.

It also uses CCTV and intercom technology to protect and assist a user - anyone wishing to gain access to the facility will speak directly to a CCTV operator who will then be able to check who the person is and let them in.

The facility has been provided in part by the council and Danfo UK and has involved consultation between several department to ensure that all needs are met in the most efficient way.

Councillor Ian Fowler, Cabinet Member for Business Services will perform the opening and is delighted with the new facility.

He said: "The Solaris centre is a wonderful venue for exhibitions, meetings or just relaxing and is used by all sorts of people.

"We have however been aware that the facilities for severely disabled visitors were not at the high standard of the rest of the facilities and so something had to be done.

"We have done everything possible and involved many different people to make this changing place as user friendly and fit for purpose as possible.

"I hope it will help our visitors enjoy their time at the Solaris."
